Georgia Solar Incentives:
- Federal Grant: 30% of total system cost as a Grant. This has been extended as a grant for 2011. Projects must be started this year in order to take advantage. No limit on project size.
- Georgia Tax Credit: 35% of the total system cost as a State Tax Credit. Maximum per project is $500,000 for commercial, maximum for residential systems is $10,500. Available on a first come first serve basis, the customer can apply after the property has been put in place. Legislated by the state in 2008, this bill is set to expire in 2012. The current budget of $2.5mil per year has been fully allocated.
- Power Premium from Utility: Georgia Power and Tennessee Valley Authority, will pay a premium from $0.05 - $0.12 per kWh generated. The EMCs will vary widely, but call us and we can discuss your specific situation.
- Bonus Depreciation: Commercial customers can take advantage of accelerated depreciation for solar property. In the first year, you can depreciate between 60 - 100% of the basis in the property.
Depending on your particular situation, these incentives combine to create between a 3 and 6 year payback. The green benefits are a bonus.
