Inman Solar completes 490kw solar project for Edwards, Inc.
Atlanta, Ga. (USA) – Inman Solar, a national provider of turnkey solar photovoltaic systems, recently completed its first alternative energy project for Edwards, Inc., one of the larger full-service industrial contractors and crane rental companies in the Southeastern United States.
Edwards recently energized the 490-kilowatt photovoltaic array on two acres of its Spring Hope, N.C., facility. The plant will provide electricity for the company’s headquarters building, pipe fabrication and plate finishing, specialty steel fabrication, and rigging and crane services operations. Inman Solar designed, built and installed the unique alternative energy solution and were instrumental in procuring federal and state tax credits that made the project a smart financial investment.
“Inman approached us in early in 2014 and made a solid business case for solar,” said Derrill Edwards, founder and CEO of Edwards, Inc. “They showed us how a program of this kind could provide a payback in less than five years, with ongoing benefits from 25-40 years into the future,” he added.
The project took about a year to complete, from initial contact through due diligence, design, construction, installation and local utility hookup. Inman’s turnkey approach was a key reason Edwards selected them, said Joel Bailey at Edwards, Inc.
“They handled everything. We supported them as needed but I can’t say enough about how easy it was to work with them—they were professionals from beginning to end. They made it easy for us to be ‘green for green’,” he said.
The solar solution is expected to reduce Edwards’ electricity costs by at least 40 percent—the equivalent of 100 residential homes–per year, said Inman Solar’s Derek Clayton, who managed the Edwards project.

“When you consider the amount of energy that companies like Edwards use on a yearly basis, even small- to medium-sized savings can have a huge impact on the bottom line, and on reducing environmental impact,” he said. “I also applaud Edwards’ management for having tremendous insight into the promise of solar and for approaching this project with a mindset of creativity and innovation,” he added.
