The Solar Canopy at Edgewood @ the Beltline is now complete and producing power in the Old Fourth Ward District of Atlanta, GA. Located at 619 Edgewood Ave, an 18,000 SF office building adjacent to the much anticipated Beltline Atlanta project, the canopy creates a distinctive architectural feature on the three story building. The result is one of the greenest and most exciting office spaces in Atlanta.

The Solar Canopy is a framework of structural aluminum that is covered with solar modules that is integrated into the building structure. In addition to producing clean renewable energy, the system provides shade and rain protection.

The canopy makes the outdoor terrace much more usable in any weather conditions. It also is making a big impact on cooling the building. In the past, the sun would blast through large windows that surround the building. Now, the space stays shaded, reducing the cooling load on the HVAC equipment.
The solar modules by Sanyo are bifacial, meaning they have solar cells on both sides of the panel. Sanyo’s HIT Double Technology absorbs reflective energy from the underside of the module as well as the top side, increasing production by up to 30% depending on its configuration.
The modules allow about 10% of the light to pass through them in a grid pattern, adding to the architectural interest of the system.
All this while producing a positive ROI project for the building owner.
